Boiler bank in focus

The boiler bank, also known as the convection bank, is one of the primary heat transfer components in a steam generation system.

It consists of a tube bank responsible for transferring heat from the combustion gas stream to the water circulating within the boiler through the process of convection.

In this process, water from the steam drum flows through the downcomers to the lower header of the boiler bank, where it is distributed among the tubes. The heat absorbed from the flue gases is sufficient to vaporize the water, reducing its density and contributing to the boiler's natural circulation process. This water-steam mixture then returns to the steam drum through return tubes, where moisture separation and steam purification take place.

Constructed as an assembly of parallel tubes, the boiler bank is designed to maximize heat recovery from the gas stream while meeting the required heat transfer surface area and respecting gas velocity limitations. This results in improved operating conditions and greater equipment longevity.

An important factor in ensuring component efficiency is careful consideration of its arrangement within the boiler. Proper design facilitates inspection, cleaning, and maintenance activities while preventing the formation of preferential gas flow paths that can cause localized wear and negatively impact overall performance.

HPB's boiler bank can be designed in modular sections, allowing tubes and headers to be assembled at our manufacturing facility and then positioned and interconnected in the field through a simplified installation process. In addition to optimizing project schedules and facilitating transportation and assembly, this approach delivers superior quality and safety throughout all project stages.

Within HPB's engineering philosophy, the boiler bank is not merely an essential boiler component. It is also an example of how we incorporate technology and innovation to deliver equipment that is more efficient, reliable, and aligned with our customers' operational requirements.
