Zilor

Zilor is a Brazilian multinational company operating in the sugar-energy sector, producing sugar, ethanol, renewable electricity, and natural food ingredients. Founded in the 1940s, it currently has 3 industrial units and 3 agro-industrial units in Brazil, as well as facilities in the United States and Belgium.

In the 2021/2022 harvest, Zilor processed approximately 10 million tons of sugarcane, producing about 662,000 tons of sugar and 468,000 cubic meters of ethanol, supplying more than 60 countries.

Additionally, thanks to energy cogeneration, the company ensures 100% of its plants’ energy needs and has the capacity to export approximately 477 GWh of electricity per year from sugarcane biomass, enough to power a city of over 500,000 inhabitants.

As part of an expansion project at the Usina São José, Zilor acquired a new HPB/B&W boiler with a nominal production capacity of 250,000 kg/h of superheated steam at 530 °C and 96 kgf/cm²(g) pressure, using sugarcane bagasse as fuel.

A key factor in this project was the challenge and HPB’s capability to meet the strict 18-month delivery schedule between contract signing and equipment availability for steam production, even under a challenging supply chain scenario due to the geopolitical context at the time.

This investment in technology will increase production and energy generation capacity at Zilor’s São José Mill, using renewable fuel and maintaining the commitment to a future with lower net carbon emissions.

This aligns with HPB’s strategy to provide high-quality solutions with social responsibility, aiming to give renewable energy produced from biomass combustion the recognition it deserves in the energy matrix.
