Klingele

Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB)

With more than 100 years of history, Klingele is a paper and packaging company with a global presence.

Currently, it has over 25 units and 3,200 employees, offering a wide range of products, including corrugated board, transport packaging, and corrugated cardboard boxes.

Recently, aiming to expand its operations, Klingele acquired a new paper mill in Brazil, in Nova Campina – SP, broadening its product portfolio to include virgin fiber papers.

The company believes that the right technology can boost quality, reduce costs, and contribute to environmental sustainability. In line with this philosophy, Klingele invested in a new HPB/B&W boiler, with a nominal capacity to produce 120,000 kg/h of superheated steam at 495 °C and a pressure of 67 kgf/cm², using wood chips, bark, sludge, and non-condensable gases —byproducts of pulp production— as fuels, with fuel oil as an alternative.

The steam generation system was designed to operate with a wide variety of fuels and under different combustion conditions, an advantage enabled by the Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) technology selected by Klingele for this project.

In addition to allowing multiple fuel combinations, BFB enables the combustion of biomass with both low and high moisture content, depending on operational conditions. This is possible thanks to the inert material in the bed, in this case sand, which provides thermal inertia and ensures stable operation.

The Bubbling Fluidized Bed also offers the highest combustion efficiency among biomass systems, exceeding 99.5%, and provides greater availability and reliability compared to other solutions.

The equipment supplied to Klingele also includes an Electrostatic Precipitator as the gas emission control system, ensuring particulate matter emissions below 50 mg/Nm³, thus reducing the plant’s environmental impact.

This highly efficient particulate collection solution takes into account increasingly stringent emission limits, contributing to better quality of life for future generations.

The acquisition of this steam generator by Klingele aligns with HPB’s strategy of contributing to the development and application of cutting-edge technologies, delivering a product of superior quality, high efficiency, and low environmental impact.
