Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB)
Guarani, which had already acquired from HPB a Steam Generator with a Bubbling Fluidized Bed combustor for its C ruz Alta unit, cquired another generator with the same specifications as steam flow, pressure, and temperature conditions as the first boiler, that being, with a capacity of 150,000 kg/h, pressure of 64 bar, and temperature of 525 °C.
The steam generator is installed at the São José unit, in the municipality of Colina-SP, and produces the required steam by burning bagasse with an average moisture content of 53% during the harvest season and 56% during the off-season.
Once again, the Fluidized Bed solution was selected when compared with conventional combustion boilers, since in addition to providing a fuel consumption reduction of more than 7%, the indirect benefits are equally significant, such as: reduction of more than 50% in NOx emissions, reduction of more than 50% in CO emissions, reduction of more than 70% in circulating material through the boiler with consequent reduction in maintenance costs, the possibility of using bag filters or electrostatic precipitators without the need for pre-collectors, the ability to burn alternative fuels such as tire residues, processed urban waste, vinasse, and low-calorific-value fuels that cannot be burned in conventional boilers, among others.
Thus, the bubbling fluidized bed establishes itself as the best and most complete solution for burning sugarcane bagasse, combining high efficiency with low environmental impact.
