Bunge - Rondonópolis
Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB)
Bunge is a global leader in agribusiness, ingredients, and food, playing an important role by leveraging its agricultural infrastructure to help develop renewable energy solutions.
Founded in Amsterdam in 1818, Bunge established itself in Brazil nearly 120 years ago and has since become one of the country’s largest food producers.
Over this period, it has been part of pioneering initiatives such as the launch of edible vegetable oils, the expansion of soybean crops, and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, all aimed at supporting the development of Brazil’s agri-food chain.
To strengthen its Rondonópolis unit in Mato Grosso, Bunge invested in a new HPB boiler with B&W technology and a nominal capacity of producing 100,000 kg/h of steam. Initially, the boiler will operate at 15 bar with saturated steam, but the pressure parts are designed for future operation at 67 bar with superheated steam at 490 ºC.
The company chose the Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) technology, which enables highly efficient combustion of a wide variety of fuels under different burning conditions. This was a key factor in making the project feasible and in the selection of the combustion system, considering the high prices of wood chips in the region where the plant is located.
The solution supplied by HPB to Bunge includes an Electrostatic Precipitator to control gas emissions. This technology reduces the plant’s environmental impact by enabling particulate matter emissions below 50 mg/Nm³. For this reason, the company also acquired a precipitator for another boiler already operating at the same site, under the same emission limits.
